SnoreLase MD is an innovative and minimally invasive laser procedure for the treatment of habitual snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. It uses a state of the art Erbium YAG laser to gently treat the oral and pharyngeal tissues. There is no cutting of tissue. It works by heating tissue to gradually induce collagen synthesis. This leads to tightening of the tissues at the back and sides of your throat. It can also stiffen the tissue, which serves to dampen the vibration that leads to snoring, or help prevent the tissue collapse that leads to obstructive sleep apnea.
For habitual snorers, there is at least a 50% reduction in snoring volumes in 80% of patients. Some studies show up to an 85% overall improvement. The effects on sleep apnea are more variable, but improvements of over 50% are common. Significant results are usually seen after 3 months.
For the most effective results, a series of 5 treatments is administered over 6 months. Oral exercises are often recommended to prepare the patient for treatment and improve the long-term results. Weight loss, alcohol avoidance, side sleeping, chin straps, nasal strips, oral appliances and CPAP devices are additional measures that can be implemented to further improve results. These products are available in any Cansleep clinic.
Many medispas and laser clinics offer laser snoring treatments, but the SnoreLase MD program is the only one designed and supervised by ENT specialists. Dr. Dewji and Dr. Tsaparas have a combined 20 years of specialized treatment in the medical and surgical management of snoring and sleep apnea. Under this program, all patients are screened for obstructive sleep apnea as this can affect the treatment settings. The SnoreLase MD program utilizes unique treatment protocols not available at other centers to achieve maximum results.
